Read MoreEmma Amelia Mautae-Lorenz is listed as born “at sea” on the Poorhouse Registry. She was deserted by her mother at the Poorhouse at 10 months old on January 28, 1886. She stayed at the Poorhouse for five days and then was adopted by Ernest Lorenz and Anne Baumgautner-Lorenz on February 1, 1886. Emma was still living with Ernest in 1901 in North Waterloo. Ernest was working as a finisher and Emma was 16 at the time. She went on to marry William J. Yanke on September 22, 1909 at the age of 24. ...
