Louis was admitted to the Poorhouse August 18th 1871 at 80 years old. He was a labourer from Germany and partially blind. He was listed as living in the Township of Wilmot for 20 years. He could be on the 1861 Canadian Census listed as a carpenter and living with his family. Five months after he was committed to the House, he committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor on February 8, 1872.
His body was not taken by any relatives and thus he was buried in the first Poorhouse cemetery.
